About my hair

Before we dive into the products, here are some details about my hair type and environment:

  • Cut & Color: I have curtain bangs with no layers, and chestnut brown highlights that add warmth to my natural color.

  • Hair Type: My hair is fine and naturally straight. The individual strands are delicate, so I focus on maintaining volume and preventing tangling without weighing it down.

  • Environment: I live in a low-humidity, very dry climate. This environment causes my hair to lose moisture quickly, making hydration a priority. The dryness can also lead to increased breakage, so I use protein treatments to strengthen and protect my hair.

With these factors in mind, I choose products that address the specific needs of my hair type and the dry conditions where I live. Let's get into the products that help me maintain healthy, beautiful hair both on and off stream!

Psst.. don't underestimate drinking lots of water either :)

Pre Wash Oil: Night Before (2x a week)

I like to use JVN's "Complete Pre-Wash Scalp & Hair Strengthening Treatment Oil" the night before I wash my hair. It helps to restore moisture, which is especially important for me because of the dry climate I live in. By the time I wash it out the next morning, my hair feels healthier, stronger, and more resilient to breakage. This extra step really makes a difference in maintaining the overall health and look of my hair.

To keep my hair balanced, I also alternate with Nexxus Protein Shampoo, which helps strengthen my hair and prevent breakage. This combination keeps my hair both hydrated and strong, even in the driest conditions.

Shower Filter

A shower filter is essential for your hair and skincare routine. It protects against hard water damage by removing minerals like calcium and magnesium that can leave hair dry and brittle. It also reduces chlorine exposure, which can strip your hair and skin of natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Additionally, a shower filter helps prevent the buildup of contaminants like heavy metals and chemicals, promoting softer, shinier hair and smoother, healthier skin. By improving water quality, a shower filter enhances the effectiveness of your hair and skincare products, making it a valuable addition to your routine!

Hydrating Shampoo

Living in Colorado, the dry climate can really take a toll on my hair, making it feel brittle and frizzy. I rely on Hydrating Shampoos and Conditioner. Dove gently cleanses without stripping natural oils, keeping my hair soft and nourished. If you’re dealing with dryness, this duo is a must-try. It’s made a world of difference in keeping my hair looking healthy and vibrant all day long!

To keep my hair balanced, I also alternate with Nexxus Protein Shampoo, which helps strengthen my hair and prevent breakage. This combination keeps my hair both hydrated and strong, even in the driest conditions.

Protein Shampoo

Using Nexxus Keraphix Keratin Hair Products and Keratin Protein Shampoo is key to strengthening and repairing your hair, especially if it's been damaged by heat styling or environmental stress. These products are infused with keratin, a vital protein that makes up the structure of your hair. Over time, your hair can lose keratin, leading to weakness, breakage, and split ends.

Nexxus Keraphix works by replenishing this essential protein, deeply repairing and reinforcing each strand from within. The result is stronger, more resilient hair that’s less prone to damage. By incorporating these protein-rich products into your routine, you’re actively restoring your hair’s natural strength and vitality, making it look healthier and more robust. Alternating with a moisturizing shampoo helps maintain a balance, ensuring your hair is both strong and hydrated.

Hair Towel Wrap

After showering, I wrap my hair in a microfiber towel wrap for about 10 minutes to get rid of excess moisture. This step helps my hair absorb products better afterwards and prevents them from becoming diluted by too much water.

Leave In Conditioner

After removing excess moisture with a towel wrap, the next step is applying "Miracle Leave-In Conditioner" to my hair. This product is a crucial part of my routine because it provides immediate hydration and detangling benefits, making my hair more manageable and easier to style. It also helps to lock in moisture, smooths frizz, and adds a protective barrier against heat and environmental damage.

Hair Oil

My next step is to use a tiny amount of "Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Strengthening Treatment Hair Oil" on the ends of my hair. This oil is perfect for targeting the areas most prone to dryness and damage. By focusing on the ends, I help prevent split ends and keep my hair looking healthy and smooth. The oil also adds an extra layer of protection and nourishment, ensuring my hair stays strong and shiny without feeling weighed down.

Velcro Hair Curlers

Once I’ve applied my leave-in conditioner and hair oil, I let my hair air-dry until it's about 90% dry without using any heat. This helps minimize heat damage and keeps my hair healthier in the long run. When it’s almost dry, I then apply Velcro hair rollers to add extra volume. I leave the rollers in until my hair is fully dry, which gives me that natural, lifted look without needing to use a blow dryer or other heat styling tools.
